Court imposes fine of Rs 7000 to auto driver after man died in accident

Agartala: April 25. CJM court in Khowai has slapped fine of Rs 7,000 to an auto driver after a person died when the auto had hit him. The accident took place on April 25, 2022 in the area adjacent to Moharchhara Bazar on Khowai-Teliamura road. That evening, the deceased person identified as Tapas Das (30) was returning to home from Moharchara market.

At that time, a passenger auto-rickshaw (TR-01H2614) from Khowai to Teliamura came from behind and hit Tapas Das. The seriously injured Tapas Das was first taken to Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital and later to GB Hospital in Agartala. Tapas Das died on April 30 at GB Hospital. On 2nd May 2022, the family of the deceased filed a written complaint with the Teliamura police station. The police started investigating the case of the accident.

After the investigation, on 30th June 2022, the police filed a charge shit in the court under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicle Act. During the hearing of the case, eight people testified in the court. Based on that, the autorickshaw driver Gopal Debnath was found guilty. Judge Dharmendu Das of the CJM Court of Khowai on Tuesday imposed a fine of Rs 7,000 on the autorickshaw driver Gopal Debnath based on various sections. APP Abhijit Bhattacharya handled the case on behalf of the government. If the fine is not paid, the autorickshaw driver will have to serve seven months imprisonment. .
