Agartala, 1st March 2025 : The Communist Party of India (CPI) has strongly protested against the Agartala Municipal Corporation’s demolition drive in the Lake Chowmuhani market area. The protest took place in front of the Junu Das Bhavan here.
A CPI member, speaking to reporters, condemned the use of bulldozers to demolish the shops of small traders without providing any alternative arrangements. “The livelihoods of these small traders depend on their businesses. They are all poor, lower-middle-class families who survive on daily wages. The inhumane act of evicting them from the market using bulldozers without any resettlement plan is unacceptable,” he stated.
The CPI has called for immediate steps to rehabilitate the affected traders and provide them with alternative means of earning their livelihood. The party emphasized the importance of supporting the vulnerable sections of society and ensuring their well-being.
