CPI writes to SP Kiran Kumar, demands adequate security and probe in Durganagar violence

Agartala, 27th August 2024:  The Communist party of India (CPI) has written a letter to the West District Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar demanding adequate Police personnel to prevent further communal unrest and necessity steps to restore peaceful environment and harmony among people residing in Durganagar Gram Panchayat of Jirania Block.

In the letter, CPI said that one of the most unfortunate incident of violence on minority families that took place at Durganagar GP of Jirania Block on 25th August late evening.

“According to feedback we received from our own sources, we would like to place before you few points for taking adequate remedial measures for maintaining rule of law, peaceful environment and ensuring safety of the people residing in Durganagar GP of Jirania Block. We are informed that, on 25th August, evening, following a rumor of desecration of a Kali idol, a group of violent mob from Ranirbazar and its adjacent areas gathered and violently attacked on the minority families residing in Durganagar GP. The miscreants with preplan agenda and ill motive selectively targeted the minority families and set on fire there houses, shops, cattle, cars and looted belongings of the victims. The miscreants didn’t even spare a baby being seriously injured”, the letter reads.

They said that many houses and shops has been totally ransacked and completely ablaze. Many houses has been totally ransacked and looted. Cars and bikes has been heavily damaged and ransacked.

“Though there was an apprehension of such violence following the rumor of desecration of a Kali idol, but the local police administration did not take preventive steps and as a result such unfortunate incident is the outcome. Near about 30 number of victim families have taken shelter in nearby place and some others in houses of there relatives incident. Due to there nasty conspiracy such an unfortunate incident took place”, it said.

The CPI Tripura State Council urged the SP to provide adequate Police personnel to prevent further such incident and necessity steps to restore peaceful environment and harmony among people residing in the area.

“Arrange basic amenities on urgent basis according to need and relief for the victim families and lodge a Suomoto FIR to investigate this unfortunate violence selectively targeting the minority families including the incident of desecration of Kali idol. Both the case must be investigated in a unprejudiced manner to identify the perpetrators and take appropriate legal measures against them”, it added.
