CPIM protest over alleged healthcare collapse under BJP govt

Agartala, 29th May 2025:  Members of the CPIM Uttar Agartala local committee staged a protest outside GB Hospital here today, alleging a severe deterioration of the healthcare system under the BJP-led government. The demonstrators voiced concerns over declining medical services and infrastructure failures, before submitting a deputation to the hospital superintendent listing their demands.

CPIM Sadar district Secretary Amal Chakraborty criticized the state’s healthcare system, asserting that it has deteriorated drastically. “The government speaks of a world-class health system, but what we are witnessing is a complete collapse. Patients are dying due to lack of treatment,” Chakraborty stated. He further claimed that under the previous Left Front government, citizens received better healthcare services, which have now been curtailed.

Raising concerns about hospital infrastructure, Chakraborty alleged that patients are increasingly at risk, even within medical facilities. “People are getting infected inside hospitals. Just recently, a ceiling fan collapsed on a patient. The number of healthcare workers is alarmingly low, and private institutions are now running the hospitals,” he said.

He also pointed out that despite the Chief Minister himself being a doctor, the administration has failed to address these pressing healthcare issues. “It is shocking that the Chief Minister, who understands medical needs, has not taken steps to resolve these problems,” Chakraborty added.
