Agartala, 29th October 2025: The CPIM today launched a three-hour sit-in demonstration in Kailashahar, accusing the BJP-led Tripura government of being built on a foundation of falsehood and deception.
Addressing the gathering, CPIM state secretariat member Amitabh Dutta alleged that the ruling dispensation’s conduct is steeped in lies and that governance in the state has collapsed under its watch.
Organized by the CPIM’s Kailashahar sub-divisional committee, the protest took place in front of the municipal council office and drew participation from a cross-section of society, including tribal and non-tribal residents, daily wage earners, and local citizens from both urban and rural areas.
Party leaders Bijan Sinha and Abdul Khalik presided over the event, which also saw speeches from state committee member Swapan Baishnab, sub-divisional secretary Anjan Roy, and leaders Prabhakar Singh and Mukta Das.
Among the key demands raised during the demonstration were: Restoration of the rule of law in the state and stern action against corruption and political violence.
In his address, Datta claimed that Tripura has descended into lawlessness under BJP rule, with drug trafficking flourishing unchecked. “Narcotics are arriving in Tripura by the wagonload, yet the administration remains a mute spectator. Even when the police are aware, they dare not act because the traffickers enjoy political protection,” he alleged.
He further criticized the government’s alliance partners for calling bandhs during which even government officials have been attacked. “In Santirbazar, Dhalai district, a BDO and an engineer were assaulted in the presence of police, yet no arrests were made. The government’s real slogan now seems to be ‘Sabka Vinash’ (destruction for all), not ‘Sabka Vikas’ (development for all),” Datta said.
He also accused the government of creating an atmosphere of fear to divert public attention. “People must unite and take to the streets in a mass movement,” he urged.
Echoing similar concerns, CPIM state committee member Swapan Kumar Baishnab said, “Goons and anti-social elements are ruling the streets. Common people are under attack daily, and women are being harassed. The so-called double-engine BJP government has pushed peaceful Tripura into turmoil.”
Concluding the protest, party leaders warned that if the government fails to take effective action against corruption, violence, and the drug menace, the CPI(M) will intensify its agitation across the state in the coming days.
