Agartala, 7th January 2026 : A daring burglary has once again shaken the Rajnagar area under Fatikroy police station. In the early hours of this morning, thieves broke into a well-established grocery store owned by local businessmen Nihar Ranjan Ghosh and Nishikanta Ghosh, looting cash and valuables.
Store owner Nishikanta Ghosh told reporters that the burglars entered by breaking the wall ventilator and unlocking the door. They first cut the CCTV wires to disable surveillance before ransacking the shop. The gang then fled through the back door with cash and essential goods.
At the time of the incident, a religious kirtan program was underway nearby, with loudspeakers blaring. Ghosh alleged that the noise provided cover for the thieves, who took advantage of the distraction.
The owners expressed deep concern, noting that this was the third burglary at the same shop, which has been serving the community for over 45 years. The densely populated locality has been left alarmed and unsettled by the repeated thefts. The shopkeepers have demanded a thorough investigation and swift arrest of the culprits.
Fatikroy police station staff rushed to the spot after receiving information and has begun an inquiry. Initial estimates suggest losses amounting to nearly Rs 1.5 lakh.
