Agartala, 29th January 2026:   Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today said that along with development in various fields, the state government has also taken steps to rapidly develop the information technology sector in Tripura.

“The state government wants to make Tripura the information technology hub of the North Eastern region in the next few years. Keeping this goal in mind, efforts have been made to set up the largest data center in the North Eastern region,” he said.

Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha said this while laying the foundation stone and attending the bhoomi pujan ceremony for the construction of the Airtel Data Center at Chanmari today.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Saha said that Tripura is moving rapidly towards becoming the best-performing state from a best-model state.

“If this data center is built, the unemployed youth of the state, including those in various government and private institutions and social media, will particularly benefit. This initiative is a timely decision of the state government. The state government has given 1 acre of land to Airtel to set up the data center. If the data center is built, the state’s I.T. sector will be stronger, and investment in setting up industries will increase,” he said.

The Chief Minister said that most of the people from Tripura living outside the state and the country are associated with the I.T. sector.

“In this case, they will also be encouraged to invest in Tripura. Due to the favorable environment for setting up the IT industry in Tripura, several investment companies like Airtel, M/s. PVM Invensys Private Limited, M/s. Polo Towers Group, and M/s. C.T.R.L.S. have expressed interest in setting up data centers in the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given special emphasis on increasing the number of state-of-the-art data centers in the country. State-of-the-art data centers are also very important in terms of the cyber security of our country,” he said.

The Chief Minister expressed the hope that this state-of-the-art data center will also play an important role in increasing the country’s data storage capacity to 8 gigawatts by 2030.

Minister of Information Technology and Finance Pranajit Singha Roy, Secretary of the Department of Information Technology Kiran Gitte, and CEO of Bharti Airtel Balaji R.
