Agartala, 16th April 2025:   Shekhar Datta from Mohanbogh has been accused of spreading defamatory propaganda against MLA Tafajjal Hossain on social media. The controversy erupted after Datta posted on Facebook alleging that the MLA had eve-teased his wife Pooja Pal during a family dispute. In his post, Datta wrote, “If I do not get proper justice, then MLA Tafajjal Hossain and Boxanagar Pradhan Bulti Sarkar will be responsible for my death.”

Before the post gained traction online, MLA Hossain and Pradhan Bulti Sarkar filed defamation cases against Datta at Kalamchoura and Melaghar police stations citing the claims as false and damaging.

Speaking to the media, Pooja Pal refuted her husband’s allegations stating, “I got married to Shekhar Datta about six years back. Ever since the marriage, I have been subjected to physical and mental torture for dowry. He regularly consumes drugs and is also involved in drug dealing. He often beats me up. Fed up, I went to my parents’ house and later appealed to MLA Tafajjal Hossain for justice.”

Pal further clarified that the MLA had acted responsibly by entrusting the area Pradhan and Upa-Pradhan with the task of ensuring a fair trial. “What my husband did is completely false and defamatory. He has threatened my mother and me in various ways before,” she added.

Local residents have expressed their support for MLA Tafajjal Hossain, emphasizing that standing by a victim is a humanitarian duty, not a crime. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter.
