Dharmanagar By-Election Tomorrow: 46,000 Voters Ready to Decide Fate

Date:

Agartala, 8th April 2026: Tripura’s North District is all set for the by-election in the Dharmanagar Assembly constituency, with administrative preparations reaching their final stage. Voting will be held tomorrow, Thursday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

From early Wednesday morning, assigned polling staff collected EVMs from the strong room at Dharmanagar Government Twelfth Girls’ School and began transporting them to their respective polling stations.

A total of 46,183 voters are eligible to vote in this by-election, including 22,380 men, 23,763 women, and 924 first-time voters. To facilitate voting, 55 polling stations have been set up, including 11 model polling stations and 11 stations entirely managed by women staff, a distinctive feature of this election.

Debjani Chowdhury, Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Dharmanagar and returning officer, confirmed that all polling staff have safely reached their assigned centers. For the convenience of female voters, separate “pink counters” have been arranged. Health facilities have been ensured for all staff, and mobile deposit boxes are installed at each booth.

District Magistrate Chandni Chandran stated that polling staff have been gradually deployed since early morning, with the aim of having all staff in place well within the scheduled time. She emphasized that the administration is fully prepared to ensure a free and fair election.

In anticipation of heavy rain and cyclonic conditions on April 9–10, precautionary measures have already been taken. Drinking water has been arranged at each polling station for voters.

TSR and SDRF teams are on standby, and Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai confirmed that CRPF personnel have been deployed at every polling and queue management point, along with TSR and Tripura Police forces. He urged voters, “Come to the polling stations confidently and enthusiastically exercise your right to vote.”

In total, six candidates are contesting this by-election. The outcome will depend on the active participation of Dharmanagar voters, who are expected to turn out in a festive spirit.
