Dual murder: Protests erupt in lower court premises demanding hanging of Samarjit Chowdhury

Agartala, 11th November 2024:    Local residents and family members gathered in the court premises on Monday demanding the hanging of Samarjit Chowdhury, who stands accused of the brutal murders of his wife Tanushree Acharya and mother-in-law Soma Acharya.

The tragic incident took place around 4 am on October 13 in the ONGC Netajinagar area. Samarjit Chowdhury is a resident of Madhupur allegedly killed his wife and mother-in-law in a fit of rage. Following the incident, the police arrested Samarjit from Madhupur.

Protesters, including the family members of the deceased voiced their demand for the harshest punishment. “Tanushree was subjected to physical and mental abuse since her marriage. Her husband Samarjit used to beat her severely,” said the younger sister of the deceased. She added, “Our mother, Soma Acharya brought Tanushree home to free her from the torture. That’s why Samarjit brutally killed them by hacking them to death.”

The protestors gathered in the court premises holding placards and chanting slogans demanding justice for the victims. “We demand the strictest punishment for Samarjit Chowdhury. He must be hanged for his heinous crime,” said one of the protestors.

The case has drawn significant attention, with the community calling for swift and severe action against the accused to ensure justice for Tanushree and Soma Acharya. The court proceedings are being closely watched as the demand for justice intensifies.
