DYFI submits memorandum to Agartala Railway Station Superintendent over drug trafficking concerns

Date:

Agartala: Oct 21. The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) submitted a deputation to the Station Superintendent of Agartala Railway Station today, demanding urgent action against the rising use of railways for drug trafficking in Tripura.

The move follows the recent seizure of a large quantity of narcotic cough syrup from a train at Jirania Railway Station on October 16. DYFI State Secretary Nabarun Deb led the delegation, which met with the station authorities to express concern over the misuse of Indian Railways for transporting illegal substances into the state.

Speaking to reporters, Deb alleged that drug consignments are routinely entering Tripura via government-operated rail services. He emphasized that despite the seizure, authorities have yet to disclose the identities of those responsible for bringing the contraband into the state.

Deb further claimed that such operations could not occur without the tacit support of high-ranking officials, and urged the administration to investigate and take decisive action. He also highlighted that while Tripura has seen improvements in connectivity and railway expansion, these developments have inadvertently facilitated the movement of narcotics, posing a serious threat to public safety.
