Agartala, 29th September 2024: In a significant breakthrough in a cannabis smuggling case, the East Agartala police have arrested four individuals, including the driver of the lorry involved in the operation. The suspects, identified as Bijay Das, Raju Pal, Pradip Deb, and driver Mithun Karmakar, were apprehended following a detailed interrogation and a police operation based on confidential information.
On Saturday, officers seized a lorry with the registration number NL 01K 8197 in the Chandrapur area of Agartala. Upon searching the vehicle, police discovered approximately 355 kg of dry cannabis hidden inside. The arrests were made shortly after the initial detention of driver Mithun Karmakar, which led to the identification of the three accomplices residing in the Joynagar and Badharghat areas of the city, with another suspect located in Teliamura.
Sadar Divisional Police Officer stated, “Our focus is now on gathering information regarding the origins of the cannabis and identifying the mastermind behind this trafficking operation.” The police believe that further interrogations of the arrested individuals will expedite the investigation and lead to more arrests.
