Agartala, 7th August 2024:The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on Wednesday that the election for 12 vacant Rajya Sabha seats will take place on September 3.
These vacancies include seats previously held by Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Sarbananda Sonowal, and Jyotiraditya Scindia, who were elected to the Lok Sabha. In Tripura, the seat became vacant after Biplab Kumar Deb’s election to the Lok Sabha.
The ECI stated that the election notification will be issued on August 14, with the last date for filing nomination papers set for August 21.
Scrutiny of the nominations will occur on August 22. The final date for withdrawal of candidature is August 26 for Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Tripura, and August 27 for the other states.
Voting will take place on September 3 from 9 AM to 4 PM, with the counting of votes starting at 5 PM on the same day. Of the 12 vacant seats, two each are from Assam, Bihar, and Maharashtra, and one each from Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tripura, Telangana, and Odisha.
