Agartala, 19th August 2025: A 45-year-old man Lakhan Tripura tragically died after coming into contact with a live electrical source in Gardhang Ashwini Tripura Para under the Santirbazar subdivision.
Family members informed that Lakhan’s death could have been prevented if proper road access and timely emergency response had been available. The village, home to five families and around 20 registered voters lacks a motorable road. Residents rely on a narrow path through private farmland, which becomes nearly impassable during the monsoon season.
On the day of the incident, multiple calls were made to summon vehicles for emergency transport, but none could reach the location. Eventually, the Santirbazar fire brigade was contacted. Family members allege that responders arrived nearly 30 minutes after the call, a delay they believe proved fatal.
“If there had been a proper road or if emergency services had arrived on time, Lakhan would still be alive. We’ve informed local leaders, the village head, and elected members about the road issue countless times, but nothing has been done,” said a grieving relative.
Lakhan Tripura leaves behind three children and a wife, who now mourn the loss of a husband and father. The family’s anguish is compounded by what they describe as years of neglect by local authorities, who only appear during election season.
Following a post-mortem at South Tripura District Hospital at Santirbazar today, Lakhan’s body was handed over to his family. His sudden and preventable death has cast a pall of sorrow across the village.
