Agartala, 29th March 2025: A team of dedicated doctors at Gomati District Hospital has achieved a remarkable feat, saving the life of Ananta Manjuri Jamatia, a 34-year-old tribal mother from Gomaku, Amarpur’s Garjan khala. Led by Medical Superintendent and renowned Gynaecologist & Obstetrician, Dr. Kajal Kumar Das, the team successfully navigated a life-threatening “maternal near miss” situation, demonstrating exceptional medical expertise and unwavering dedication.
Ananta Manjuri Jamatia, referred from Amarpur SDH, arrived at the hospital in a critical state. “Her condition was dire,” Dr. Das explained. “Her blood pressure was unreadable, her pulse was feeble, and she was in extreme pain.” Further examination revealed a severely complicated scenario: her baby had been delivered outside the ruptured uterus, within the abdominal cavity, and was positioned in a transverse lie, a hazardous horizontal placement.
Recognizing the urgency, Dr. Das, along with Dr. Arpan Bhattacharjee, Dr. Moutushi Chowdhury, and a team of dedicated Nursing Officers (Kusum Chakraborty, Rekha Das, Sumana Baraj, Badal Majumder), and OT Assistants (Bikram Das, Litan Das), immediately initiated emergency resuscitation and administered volume expanders to stabilize her vital signs. The team meticulously worked to haemodynamically stabilize her, preparing her for emergency surgery.
“We had to remove her severely ruptured and damaged uterus,” Dr. Bhattacharjee stated. To combat significant blood loss, three units of blood were transfused. With her condition stabilized, the team moved her to the operating theatre. The atmosphere was tense, but the medical professionals remained focused, their collective expertise and determination driving them forward.
Following a demanding operation, Ananta Manjuri’s life was saved. However, amidst the relief, there was profound sadness. Jharna Debi, Ananta’s elder sister, shared, “Tragically, the baby had already died, but we are all praying for my sister’s recovery.”
Doctors confirmed that Ananta is now recovering in the post-operative ward. “She is doing well, and we are providing all necessary care,” Dr. Das reassured. This extraordinary intervention has not only saved a life but also reinforced the community’s faith in the power of compassionate and skilled medical care. The Gomati District Hospital team’s tireless efforts stand as a testament to their dedication in the face of near-certain tragedy.
