Agartala, 2nd September 2025: Agartala’s Government College of Art and Craft, a leading hub of creativity and cultural expression in Tripura is set to mark its golden jubilee on September 09 celebrating 50 years of its establishment in 1975 by renowned artist Dr. Sumangal Sen.
What once began on the veranda of Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan has today evolved into a premier institution at Lichubagan, recognized as one of Northeast India’s foremost centers of fine arts education.
Announcing the details at Agartala Press Club today, Principal Abhijit Bhattacharjee said the golden jubilee will be celebrated through a year-long series of programs in three phases, featuring seminars, workshops, art fairs, and children’s activities with participation from noted national artists. The celebrations commenced on September 4 with a colorful procession on the theme “Visual Culture of Tripura.”
The main program will run from September 9 to 13 at the college premises, offering a diverse line-up including an Art Fest & Exhibition, College Archives Display, Photo Gallery & Film Screenings, Cultural Performances, and Student Art Sale Booths. The events will remain open daily from 12 PM to 8 PM, with invitations extended to the Chief Minister, Higher Education Minister and artist Sanghamitra Nandi as special guests.
Highlighting the institution’s legacy, Bhattacharjee noted the remarkable contributions of its alumni in fields such as design, animation, advertising, and academia across India. He said the golden jubilee is not only a tribute to the college’s past but also “a platform to envision a brighter and more dynamic future in fine arts education.” West Tripura district-level Kala Utsav 2025 begins at MTB Girls’ HS School
Agartala, September 02: The West Tripura District-level Kala Utsav 2025 began today with vibrant cultural displays at Maharani Tulsibati Girls’ School in Agartala, drawing enthusiastic participation from students across the district.
Organized under the Ministry of Education, the two-day festival aims to promote creativity among school students while celebrating India’s cultural heritage. The inaugural ceremony was attended by Deputy Mayor Manika Das Dutta, Corporator Ratna Datta and other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Mayor said the event, first introduced as a national initiative in 2015, provides a meaningful platform for students to explore their artistic potential alongside academics.
This year’s festival has brought together 650 students from 60 schools, competing in 12 categories ranging from dance, music, drama, painting to sculpture. The central theme for 2025 is “Viksit Bharat – A Vision for Bharat in 2047.”
The event witnessed students from classes IX to XII showcasing a blend of traditional art forms and contemporary expressions. Officials noted that Kala Utsav functions as a multi-tiered programme from school to district, state and national levels giving young participants the opportunity to gain recognition for their talents.
As the festival continues into its second day, anticipation is high for the final rounds of performances and the announcement of winners who will advance to represent Tripura in higher-level competitions.
