Agartala, 29th July 2025 : Acting on the direction of Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, the Directorate of Secondary Education has constituted a three-member inquiry committee to probe the alleged suicide of a student, Trisha Majumder, from Sonarpur Class XII School in Barpathari, Belonia subdivision of South Tripura district.
The committee comprises Lisa Bardhan, Joint Director of Elementary Education; Kajal Kumar Bhowmik, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at the Directorate of Secondary Education; and Sudip Sarkar, OSD at the office of the District Education Officer, West Tripura.
According to preliminary reports, the Class XII student may have died by suicide after allegedly being scolded by a teacher at the school. The committee has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive investigation into the incident, including examining the role of school authorities, the mental health support system in place for students, and any other contributing factors.
Officials confirmed that the inquiry team is expected to submit its detailed report by tomorrow.The incident has sparked concern among parents and the education community, prompting demands for greater accountability and mental health safeguards within educational institutions.
