Govt spent Rs 142.63 crore for 1,38,715 SC students benefited in last 4 FYs, says Bhagaban Das

Agartala, August 18, 2022: SC Welfare minister Bhagaban Chandra Das on Thursday said that the respective department has spent Rs 142.63 crore for 1,38.715 students under SC category in the last four financial years under the Scheduled Caste Welfare department in Tripura.

Speaking to reporters here at Civil Secretariat on Thursday afternoon, Das said “In total, 71,408 students of classes VI, VII and VIII in SC category were benefited with pre-matric scholarship from 2018-19 to 2021-22 and Rs 3.25 crore was spent for this purpose. While 20,704 students of classes IX and X enjoyed pre-matric scholarship spending an amount of Rs 5.82 crore including state and central shares.”

“In 2022-23 fiscal year, SC Welfare department has taken initiative to provide scholarship among 39,295 students from classes VI to X under pre-matric scholarship with an estimated expenditure of Rs 6.40 crore”, he added.

Minister said “An amount of Rs 133.56 crore has been spent for 67,307 students of class XI and XII in last four financial years from 2018-19 till 2021-22 while the department targeted to provide scholarships amomh 26,828 students in 2022-23 fiscal year and an estimate expenditure of Rs 53.05 crore to be spent under post-matric scholarship.” “In case of hostel stipend, a SC category student get Rs 65 per day for 322 days in a year. Accordingly, Rs 5.33 crore has been spent of 3,780 students in hostels for stipend purpose,” he also added.

Apart from this the state government will also provide television in 34 hostels regulated by the SC Welfare department and an amount of Rs 13.60 lakh has been sanctioned in 2022-23 fiscal year. This television will provide help educational support to the students residing in hostels for their study purposes through online and recorded classes, Das told reporters.

SC Welfare department secretary Brijesh Pandey and Director Santosh Das were present in the press conference.
