Govt working in modernizing power sector with increasing tariff: Deputy CM

Agartala: July 29. Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma today said that his department is working in modernizing the power sector without increasing electricity tariff in the state.

Dev Varma who is also Power Minister of the state made this announcement while addressing the Vidyut Mahotsav organized at Muktdhara Auditorium on Friday under the initiative of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited and Power Grid.The minister claimed that his department is modernizing the power sector without increasing electricity tariff in the state.

“Already over 50 power substations have been constructed in one and a half years. As a result, electricity problems have been reduced a lot”, Dev Varma said.Deputy Chief Minister said that the department has paid more attention to the electricity system in this case as electricity is Tripura’s one and only resource. “And industries should be set up by doing business with these resources. Electricity also plays a major role in boosting the rural economy. So the most expenditure is on electricity. Besides, Tripura’s future will not be created”, he said. Criticizing the then government, the minister said that during the previous government only speeches were given however no development work has been done.
