Agartala, 27th February 2026: Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, today emphasized that the Constitution of India is not merely a legal document but a guiding force that ensures justice, equality, and freedom for every citizen.
He was inaugurating a seminar and workshop titled “Responsibilities and Accountability of Public Representatives Towards People of All Sections of Society” at Pragna Bhavan in Agartala.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor stated that the foremost duty of public representatives is to serve the people with dedication and ensure that the constitutional rights of justice and equality reach every citizen. He noted that the theme of the workshop was not just a subject for discussion but a fundamental pillar of a functioning democracy.
The Governor underscored the need to empower farmers, tribal communities, women, and youth. He reminded elected representatives that although they may be chosen from a specific constituency, their responsibility extends to the entire state and its people. Ensuring that the benefits of development reach the last person in society, he said, is a primary obligation.
Expressing pride that Tripura has been declared a fully literate state, he called upon all stakeholders to build a robust ecosystem for quality education. Highlighting women’s empowerment initiatives, he said that focused efforts have led to the emergence of many “Lakhpati Didis” and over one lakh women entrepreneurs in the state.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha also addressed the event, stating that safeguarding the dignity of the people, maintaining decorum in personal conduct, standing by citizens in times of distress, and ensuring full accountability in work define a true public representative. Accountability, he said, is one of the core pillars of democracy.
The Chief Minister described the initiative as a historic milestone in making democracy more transparent, strong, and people-centric. He emphasized that ethical conduct, transparency, and accountability strengthen democratic institutions. Referring to India as the world’s largest democracy, he said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country’s global stature has significantly risen.
He further noted that representatives must engage with citizens throughout the year, not only during elections, and should promptly address public grievances. In the era of Digital India, he added, technology offers vast opportunities to maintain direct communication with the people and enhance transparency by sharing information about development projects and welfare schemes online.
