Agartala, 3rd December 2024: In a distressing incident, elderly parents from Ward No. 1 of Kanchanmala area under Golaghati assembly constituency have alleged physical and mental torture by their son and daughter-in-law. The parents Ranjan Sarkar and Deepali Sarkar approached the media personnel on Tuesday to share their ordeal.
According to the incident report, Hangsha Sarkar, the eldest son of Ranjan Sarkar married Purabi Das from Jogendranagar area of Agartala about 10 years back. After their marriage, Hangsha and Purabi separated from his parents. Despite the separation, Ranjan and Deepali Sarkar claimed that their son and daughter-in-law frequently subjected them to physical and mental abuse.
The Sarkar couple had been enduring this mistreatment for a long time. On Monday, an argument between the son and daughter-in-law and the parents escalated into aggression. On Tuesday morning, the distraught parents broke down in tears while recounting their suffering to the media. “We raised Hangsha with great difficulty, but we never thought we would be subjected to such torture today,” said Ranjan Sarkar.
The entire Kanchanmala area has condemned the behavior of Hangsha and Purabi Sarkar. Locals have expressed their disapproval, stating that such treatment of parents is unacceptable in society. The community is calling for action to address the issue and ensure the safety and well-being of the elderly couple.
