Agartala, 29th April 2024 : Following a warning of severe hot and humid weather in Tripura, the India Meteorological Department has issued yellow and orange alerts with heavy to very heavy rainfall in Tripura starting on May 1st.
According to the press release, a yellow warning has been issued for heavy to very heavy rainfall in the state from May 1st to May 4th. Heavy rain is expected in North, Unakoti, and Dhalai districts on May 1st.
Additionally, the Meteorological Department has warned of thunder and lightning.
Moreover, on May 2nd, the IMD issued an Orange alert with heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to occur over Gomati, West, North, Khowai, Unakoti, and Dhalai Districts, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 Kmph.Similarly, on May 3rd, North, Dhalai, and Gomati districts are likely to experience heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, a heatwave has persisted in the state for over a week. Severe heatwave warnings are being issued daily by the Meteorological Department.
To protect students from the intense heatwave, the state government has decided to suspend all schools until May 1st.
Today, the maximum temperature reached 38.4 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was 29.2 degrees Celsius, according to the Met office. Tomorrow, the maximum temperature is expected to be 38 degrees Celsius, with a minimum of 28 degrees Celsius. Light rain is forecasted in most places in Tripura tomorrow.
