Agartala, 12th August 2025: Tripura is going to usher in a new era in power generation. Tripura Power Generation Limited (TPGL) has taken the initiative to set up a 120 MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power plant in Rokhia, which will create history not only in Tripura but also in the entire country as the first project of this technology. This plant, built with the funding of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), will increase power generation capacity without additional fuel costs by using environment-friendly technology and ensure power supply to consumers at affordable prices.
Hyderabad-based Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) has been selected as the lowest bidder by offering Rs 1,119 crore 30 lakh 15 thousand (excluding GST) through a global e-tender. TPGL and MEIL have already signed an agreement for the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) work of the project. The configuration of the power plant will be 2 gas turbines, 2 heat recovery steam generators (HRSG) and 1 steam turbine (2GT+2HRSG+1ST).
The gas turbines used in the project will be ‘SGT-800’ model manufactured by Siemens Energy AB, each with a capacity of 57 MW (ISO conditions). This high-efficiency turbine, which has exceptional ‘start-stop’ characteristics, will be installed in a power plant for the first time in the history of India. Siemens and MEIL will jointly implement the project.
A six-member delegation from MEIL and Siemens visited the Rokhia project site on August 11 and paid a courtesy call on TPGL Managing Director Biswajit Basu in Agartala on August 12. Siemens representatives said that this turbine of the SGT-800 model has world-class efficiency and will play an important role in meeting the base and peak load needs of Tripura.
If this project is implemented, Tripura will not only move towards self-reliance in power generation, but will also set a historical precedent in the field of power technology in India.
