Agartala, 25th March 2026: A nine-month-old child from Tepania in Gomati district has made a remarkable recovery after undergoing a complex congenital heart surgery, provided entirely free of cost under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK).
The infant, Sudarshan Mallik, son of Narayan Mallik from Garjanmura village, was born with a congenital heart defect. His condition was first suspected during a routine screening at the Garjanmura Anganwadi Centre, where the RBSK mobile health team noticed physical abnormalities. Following further evaluation at Gomati District Hospital, Sudarshan was referred for advanced treatment.
On February 18, 2026, Sudarshan was admitted to Apollo Children’s Hospital in Chennai. A team of specialists led by renowned cardiologist Dr. C.S. Madhukumar successfully performed the surgery on February 27, 2026. Post-operation, the child has shown rapid improvement and is now stable.
The entire treatment, including travel and surgery, was funded under the RBSK initiative, sparing the family from financial hardship. Expressing gratitude, Sudarshan’s father said, “Without this government initiative, it would have been impossible for us to travel to Chennai and get such a major surgery done.”
Officials noted that the case highlights the impact of RBSK’s mission: early detection and free advanced treatment for children to ensure a healthy start to life. The program continues to extend critical healthcare support to families across Tripura, reaffirming the government’s commitment to child welfare.
