Agartala, 17th December 2024:   International trade has resumed through the Manu Land Customs Station in Kailashahar after a 20-day suspension, with approximately five trucks of fish imported from Bangladesh today, according to importer-exporter Liton Mia.

The suspension began on November 27 when the Hindu Jagran Mancha barricaded the Manu Land Customs Station in protest against the arrest of former ISKCON monk Chinmoy Krishna Das in Bangladesh. This action halted the import of goods from Bangladesh, significantly impacting trade activities.

During the suspension, the Exporters and Importers Association sent a letter to the Chief Secretary of Tripura, urging immediate intervention to resolve the stalemate. “We requested the authorities to take necessary measures to reopen the Manu Land Customs Station for international trade, just like other land ports in the state and the country,” explained a representative from the association.

The resumption of trade came as a relief to many in the region. “Thanks to the initiative of the sub-district administration, we have been able to resume international trade through the Manu Land Customs Station,” stated Liton Mia. He confirmed that about five trucks of fish were imported from Bangladesh on Tuesday.

Local traders and businesses welcomed the news, hoping for a stable and uninterrupted trade flow moving forward. The resolution of the impasse highlights the importance of international trade links and the need for continued cooperation and dialogue to prevent future disruptions.
