Agartala, 14th March 2026: The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), a coalition partner in the state government, has signaled it may contest the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections independently if seat-sharing talks with other political parties fail.
Speaking at a central committee meeting held at Agartala Press Club on Saturday, IPFT Joint General Secretary Buddha Debbarma reiterated that the party is prepared to field candidates in all 28 constituencies should no alliance be reached. He emphasized that the party enjoys strong public support and outlined its core election agenda: the demand for a separate state, “Tipraland,” carved out of the TTAADC areas. Debbarma also noted that several developmental issues remain pending, which the party intends to take to the people during the campaign.
The meeting was attended by IPFT President Prem Kumar Reang, General Secretary Swapan Debbarma, and other senior leaders. Following the discussions, Swapan Debbarma announced that the party will launch a show of strength ahead of the polls. On March 17, IPFT plans to organize bike rallies across all 28 constituencies under its organizational divisions. Each division has also been tasked with assessing the electoral situation in its respective area and submitting timely reports.
