Agartala, 27th October 2023 : In a startling turn of events, kabaddi players of the state gathered in protest todfay, besieging the residence of Olympic Association Secretary Rupak Debra in Dhaleshwar. The demonstration follows a series of allegations involving a kabaddi event in Mathura, where Sagar Debbarma, a prominent player, found himself in dire straits.

According to sources, Rupak had accompanied Sagar Debbarma to the event a few days prior. Upon the conclusion of the kabaddi match, a heated dispute arose when Sagar claimed that he was owed thirteen thousand rupees by Debbarma. The disagreement escalated to the point where Rupak left Debbarma at Howrah station, proceeding to Agartala without settling the financial matter.

Trapped without resources, Sagar Debbarma faced further adversity when his mobile phone and money bag were stolen, leaving him stranded. With the assistance of kind-hearted individuals, Debbarma managed to secure his return home.

Outraged by the incident, fellow kabaddi players have called for the immediate arrest of Rupak Dev Roy and are demanding stringent legal action. They contend that accountability for such incidents, especially in high-stakes events, is paramount. Furthermore, it has been alleged that out of the 14 players participating in the event under the banner of Tripura, only three were actual representatives from the region.

Advocating for a thorough investigation, the players insist on transparency and accountability in future events. Sagar Debbarma’s residence, located in the Dhumachara area, has become a focal point for discussions surrounding the incident. The protesting players have issued a stern warning: should stringent measures not be taken against the accused Rupak Debroy, they vow to escalate their movement in the days to come.

This incident has ignited a fervent debate about ethics and accountability within sports management, prompting authorities to address the concerns raised by the kabaddi players. The Tripura Kabaddi Association is expected to release an official statement in the coming days.
