Agartala, 29th October 2025: A wave of grief has swept through the journalistic community of Kailashahar following the untimely death of Soumita Bhattacharjee, the 13-year-old daughter of veteran journalist and senior Press Club member Biswajit Bhattacharjee.
Soumita reportedly suffered a sudden cardiac episode late last night. She was initially taken to a private hospital in Kailashahar and later referred to Agartala’s IGM Hospital due to her critical condition. However, her health deteriorated en route, prompting a stop at Khowai Hospital. Despite medical efforts, she was declared dead at IGM Hospital later that night.
The news of her passing cast a pall over the town. Journalists, friends, relatives, and local dignitaries gathered at the Bhattacharjee residence to offer condolences. Her cremation was held this afternoon at Kailashahar crematorium, attended by Press Club members and representatives of various social organizations.In a statement, the Kailashahar Press Club expressed deep sorrow, saying, “The sudden demise of a 13-year-old girl has deeply saddened us all. We extend our heartfelt condolences to journalist Biswajit Bhattacharjee and his family. May they find strength in this difficult time.”
