Agartala, 18th May 2025:  A desperate mother has been awaiting financial assistance for her ailing son’s treatment, despite multiple appeals to government authorities.

It is reported that the three-and-a-half-year-old Anupam Chowdhury, son of Mishtu Chowdhury from Ward No. 2, Kanchanmala, West Tripura district has been suffering from a severe stomach ailment for several months. Seeking medical intervention, his mother took him to various private doctors in Agartala city, but no definitive solution emerged. As his condition worsened, he was admitted to IGM Hospital in Agartala, where he underwent treatment for a week before being discharged. However, his relief was temporary—his pain resurfaced, prompting another admission, this time at Tripura Medical College & Dr BRAM Teaching Hospital, Hapania.

After 11 days of treatment and thorough medical tests, doctors advised that Anupam required specialized care at AIIMS Hospital outside the state. While the referral was swiftly issued, the financial burden of travel and treatment posed a daunting challenge for his family, which is struggling economically.

In an effort to secure government assistance, Mishtu Chowdhury submitted a formal application along with required documents to the District Child Protection Officer’s office on April 2. She was informed that funds would be allocated soon by the Social Education Department. However, despite multiple visits to various offices, including the Director of the State Social Education Department and even the Minister of Social Welfare and Social Education, the bureaucratic process has stalled her request. Officials stated that the application was “under process,” being circulated for approvals from one department to another.

Meanwhile, a delegation from the Social Education Department visited the family for an assessment. Yet, more than one-and-a-half months later, there has been no confirmation on when financial aid will be provided. As the wait drags on, Anupam remains at home, enduring unbearable pain, while his mother watches helplessly, unable to afford treatment.

Today, in a last attempt, Mishtu Chowdhury approached Minister Tinku Roy urging immediate intervention to ensure her son receives the medical care he urgently needs. Whether her plea will translate into timely action are remains to be seen.
