Agartala: June 25. The traditional Kharchi festival in Agartala commenced today with the bathing ceremony of the fourteen goddesses at the Chaturdasa Devata temple premises in Old Agartala.
The bathing ritual, which took place in the afternoon at the Howrah river, was conducted with utmost devotion and in accordance with traditional customs.
The Rajchantai Durga Manik Debbarma, along with other priests, and dignitaries including Kharchi Utsav Committee Chairman MLA Ratan Chakraborty, Chairman of Old Agartala Panchayat Samiti Biswajit Shil, and well-known philanthropist Amit Kumar Nandi, were present during the ceremony. Local residents enthusiastically participated in this auspicious event, adding to its grandeur and beauty. Hundreds of men and women gather on both sides of the road to see this traditional bathing. Since this day, buyers have opened various stalls in the mela. The 7-day festival will begin on Monday morning with a puja.
