Agartala, 4th November 2025: Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury has stirred a debate across the media and public spheres following one of his recent social media posts regarding a closed-door meeting held by the Hon’ble Chief Minister at his residence. The meeting, reportedly attended by a few selective officers belonging to a particular community, has prompted discussions in local dailies and among individuals about its nature and intent.
Chaudhury said he welcomes this debate and, in continuation of the conversation, posed a series of questions aimed at clarifying the purpose and procedure of the meeting. He questioned which department convened the meeting if its stated purpose was to ensure better coordination and accelerate implementation of welfare schemes dedicated to a specific community or area.
He also raised concerns about the absence of top bureaucrats from the meeting. Chaudhury pointed out that if the gathering was indeed an important, high-level official meeting chaired by the Chief Minister himself, then the Chief Secretary or any senior Principal Secretary or Secretary should have been present. The only senior official reportedly in attendance was Sri Uttam Chakma, a retired officer currently serving as Secretary to the Governor on re-employment.
Highlighting established government procedures, Chaudhury further noted that in multi-sectoral meetings—even at the block level—a formal minute is typically prepared by the nodal department and the list of attendees is published. He questioned whether such an official record was created or made public following the Chief Minister’s meeting.
Chaudhury concluded that the clarification of these questions is essential to put an end to the controversies that have arisen around the meeting.
