Lorry movement halted following tragic death of driver at Bishalgarh

Agartala, 2nd April 2025:   Lorry traffic at Bishalgarh came to a standstill today as drivers and workers mourned the untimely death of fellow lorry driver Rakesh Debnath, who tragically lost his life in a road accident on March 31. Debnath, a resident of Anandnagar No. 10 in Malaynagar fell at least 40 feet into the roadside sand in Malaynagar area resulting in his death. Three others sustained injuries in the incident and are currently undergoing treatment at GBP Hospital.

In response to the tragedy, drivers and workers from Kanchanmala, Jugalkishore Nagar and Gabardi gathered near Kanchanmala Lakshmicharda School for a condolence meeting. The somber gathering included a minute of silence to honor the memory of Rakesh Debnath. Speaking to media personnel, a worker shared, “Rakesh was not just a colleague but a friend to many of us. His sudden passing has left a void that is hard to fill.”

Demonstrating solidarity, the group pledged financial support to Debnath’s bereaved family. “Each of us will contribute according to our capacity to assist his family,” stated another worker. Additionally, they urged the state government to offer financial aid and provide a government job to a family member of Debnath.

As a mark of respect, the lorry drivers and workers announced the suspension of lorry movement for the day, underlining their deep sorrow and commitment to supporting the family in this difficult time.
