Agartala, 8th November 2024: In a bold demonstration today, the Mahila Congress protested in front of the Women’s Commission, expressing deep frustration with the alleged inaction of the commission in addressing rising violence against women in the state. The protest, marked by participants wearing black ribbons over their faces, symbolized a stand against the silence surrounding grave issues like child abuse, rape, bride murder, and other crimes targeting women and children.
A prominent woman leader from the Congress party voiced concerns over the increasing incidents of torture and violence against women, criticizing the state government’s failure to ensure their safety. She noted that women and children are enduring abuses daily, and despite this, the Women’s Commission has remained largely inactive in addressing these crises.
The Sadar Mahila Congress organized the protest with a demand for immediate government action and intervention from the Women’s Commission to protect women and children. Through this protest, they aimed to draw urgent attention to the pressing need for accountability and enhanced protection measures for vulnerable groups across the state.
