Agartala, 16th January 2026: Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) has launched a major reform initiative aimed at strengthening, modernizing, and ensuring uninterrupted power supply across the state. With demand rising steadily, the corporation has prioritized upgrading transformer capacity at key substations in Agartala to stabilize voltage and meet growing consumer needs.
TSECL’s General Manager Biswajit Basu said that electricity load in Agartala has been increasing by 15–20 percent annually over the past three years, leading to voltage fluctuations, frequent transformer failures, and irregular supply in several areas. “Enhancing substation capacity is essential to provide a permanent solution to these challenges,” he noted.
At the Pragati Substation, which currently operates with two 7.5 MVA transformers providing a total capacity of 15 MVA, two new 16 MVA transformers will be installed, raising the overall capacity to 32 MVA. At the NSRCC Substation, the existing 8 MVA transformer will be replaced with a 16 MVA unit, effectively doubling its capacity. Meanwhile, the Badharghat Stadium Substation, which now has two 7.5 MVA transformers with a combined capacity of 15 MVA, will soon see the addition of a 16 MVA transformer alongside one of the existing 7.5 MVA units, increasing its total capacity to 23.5 MVA.
Officials said these upgrades will significantly improve load management, reduce voltage instability, and ensure reliable supply across Agartala.
The corporation confirmed that similar infrastructure reforms will be extended to other districts and sub-divisional towns in phases. Plans are also underway to strengthen facilities at the sub-division level to ensure uninterrupted service statewide.
Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath emphasized that the government’s goal is to provide quality and uninterrupted electricity to every citizen. He urged consumers to cooperate with the corporation by paying bills on time, highlighting that timely payment qualifies customers for a 4 percent rebate.
The minister also issued a stern warning against electricity theft, calling on citizens to report such incidents to the corporation. “If bills are paid on time and theft is curbed, Tripura will be able to deliver better, uninterrupted, and high-quality power services,” he said.
