Agartala, 3rd January 2026: Baikhora police in South Tripura arrested a 36-year-old man late yesterday night in connection with an alleged sexual assault involving a minor girl in the Jolaibari area.
Officer-in-Charge of Baikhora police station, Bishnu Chandra Das, said the police received a complaint at around 10:30 pm on Friday accusing a resident of Jolaibari of raping a minor. Acting on the information, the police immediately carried out a preliminary verification, which suggested the complaint was prima facie genuine.
Following the initial inquiry, a police team conducted a swift operation and apprehended the accused within a short period. The arrested individual has been identified as Bikash Nama (36), a resident of West Jolaibari. He is reportedly employed at the Jolaibari Community Health Centre and is married with one child.
According to the Officer-in-Charge, a case has been registered as Case No. 1 under Sections 65(1) and 351(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The minor victim has been sent for medical examination as part of the investigation. Police sources also indicated that the girl is believed to be around two months pregnant.
The accused remains in police custody and is being interrogated in connection with the case. Police officials confirmed that he will be produced before the Belonia District and Sessions Court on Saturday for further legal proceedings.
