Agartala, 7th February 2025: In a significant ruling, the Special POCSO Court in Bishalgarh has sentenced Rajesh Das, a resident of Nehal Chandra Nagar under Sepahijala District, to 13 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹1 lakh for raping a minor.
The case dates back to 2019 when Rajesh Das took advantage of the victim’s solitude and committed the heinous crime at her residence. The minor later gave birth to a baby girl in April 2020. Her mother subsequently filed a complaint at the Bishalgarh Women’s Police Station in May 2020, leading to legal proceedings against the accused.
After extensive hearings, during which statements from 22 witnesses were recorded, Special Judge Debashish Das pronounced the verdict on Friday. The court sentenced Rajesh Das to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 6 of the POCSO Act. Additionally, failure to pay the ₹1 lakh fine will result in an extra one-year imprisonment.
Moreover, Justice Debashish Kar of the Bishalgarh Sub-District Court imposed an additional three-year prison term under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). In case of non-payment of an additional fine of ₹5,000, he will serve another six months in prison.
