Agartala, 9th November 2025 : A large-scale anti-narcotics operation was conducted today morning in the Kamal Nagar and Batadola areas under Sonamura Police Station of Sepahijala District.
Speaking on the matter, Officer-in Charge of Sonamura police Station, Tapas Das said that during the drive, 36 ganja (cannabis) plantations and 2 nurseries were destroyed.
“Approximately 2,60,000 cannabis plants and saplings were uprooted, covering nearly 40 acres of forest land belonging to the Forest Department”, he said/
The joint operation was carried out by Sonamura Police Station, personnel of the 81st Battalion BSF from Deepak BOP, Dhanpur BOP, NC Nagar BOP, Batalav BOP, Matinagar BOP, and Anandpur BOP, along with officers and staff from Sonamura and Boxanagar Forest Departments.
“Additionally, personnel from the 1st Battalion TSR (men and women), 11th Battalion TSR, and other sister units also took part in the drive”, he said.
Authorities confirmed that such coordinated efforts will continue in order to eradicate illegal ganja cultivation and protect government forest land from further encroachment.
