Agartala, 27th November 2025: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma launched a sharp attack on divisive politics, warning that tribal communities in the Northeast are facing unprecedented challenges due to long-standing strategies of separation.
Speaking at a massive rally organized by Tipra Motha at Swami Vivekananda Maidan here today, Sangma stressed that the “One North East” initiative seeks to bring all communities onto a single platform to collectively fight for their rights.
“Our forefathers fought bravely to preserve the identity of various tribes. Their struggle paved the way for progress in many areas. But today, the biggest challenge is division, which is weakening our strength,” Sangma said.
He cautioned that working in isolation silences tribal voices, adding that unity is essential for demands to be heard. “The core objective of One North East is to unite everyone on the same platform and secure our rights together,” he emphasized.
Sangma clarified that the movement is not directed against anyone. “This is not a fight targeting any group. It is simply an effort to unite. Through the One North East forum, we aim to bring about long-awaited change,” he noted.
Without naming the Centre, Sangma accused the government of using divisive politics as a weapon to weaken tribal strength and create distance among communities. “Our unity is our greatest strength. Nation-building and social progress are only possible through solidarity. We must regroup and continue our struggle for rights through this platform,” he urged.
Concluding his address, Sangma expressed hope that the One North East initiative will play a pivotal role in driving development and ensuring the overall progress of tribal communities in the region.
