Agartala, 18th November 2025 : Michael Madhusudhan Dutta College organized Freshers Welcome programme at Rishi Aurovindo Auditorium, Sabroom today. The event commenced with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp, watering of a green sapling, and offering floral tributes and paying homage to the portrait of poet Michael Madhusudhan Dutta. The program was inaugurated by former MLA, Sankar Roy, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Nityananda Sarkar, Sub-Divisional Forest Officer, Kamal Bhoumik, prominent social worker Dwipayan Chowdhury and Bipul Bhoumik, President of the College Alumni Association Goutam Tripura, Dr. Tapan Shil, jiont secretary, Teachers’ Council and Dr. Anupam Guha, Principal of MMD College. The members of the College Alumni Association, head masters from various schools in Sabroom and distinguished guests were also present in the occasion.
College teachers and students gathered together to perform a patriotic opening song. At the outset, Principal Dr. Anupam Guha addressed the gathering, highlighting that alongside academics, college students are participating in various extracurricular competitions at the state, district and sub-division levels, earning laurels. He also mentioned the long-standing demand of students for the initiation of NCC, which has now been started this year. He drew attention to various developmental issues of the college, urging the guests to support and contribute toward the college’s progress. On behalf of the new students, Radesh Tripura delivered a speech.
The distinguished guests extended their best wishes to the firstsemester students and urged them to be cautious against mobile addiction and substance abuse. They emphasized that while life’s competitions are challenging, with the right purpose and perseverance, success is assured. The guests assured that they would take proactive steps to address the immediate needs of the college.
During the event, students who scored the highest marks in university finals of the final semester across all departments, as well as those recognized for outstanding contributions in NSS and other programmes, were awarded prizes to motivate and encourage them. First semester students in the third and fifth semesters were welcomed with traditional ‘Chandan Tikka’ and coming ‘New Year Calendar’ as token of affection.
The event concluded with thanks from Dr. Tapan Shil, joint secretary of the Teachers’ Council.
In the second part of the program, a cultural performance by students and guest artists were held, entertaining the audience with engaging performances.
