Agartala, 9th December 2024:  ARD, Fisheries and SC Welfare minister Sudhangshu Das held an elaborate review meeting with officials from the Fisheries, Animal Resources Development (ARD) and Scheduled Castes (SC) Welfare Department of Khowai district. The meeting took place at the Khowai District Magistrate’s conference hall at 11 am on Monday.

The review meeting was attended by Additional District Magistrate Sumit Kumar Pandey, Khowai MLA Nirmal Biswas, Ramchandraghat MLA Ranjit Debbarma, Khowai Municipal Council chairperson Debasish Nath Sharma, and various officials from the three departments.

Minister Das informed reporters that the primary objective of the meeting was to assess the progress of projects undertaken by the three departments during the fiscal years 2024 and 2025. “We are here to discuss the extent of work completed, the budget allocations, and the challenges faced in implementing these projects,” said Das.

He emphasized the importance of evaluating the effectiveness of projects aimed at the economic and social development of fish farmers and animal husbandry farmers. “We need to ensure that the initiatives we have implemented are truly benefiting the farmers and contributing to their growth,” he added.

The minister also highlighted the need to review the impact of SC Welfare programs on the community. “It is crucial to assess whether the facilities and benefits provided to the SC section have reached the intended recipients, especially the students,” he stated.

The review meeting aimed to take stock of the progress of planned projects and address any shortcomings. Minister Das acknowledged the concerns of the general public, particularly in light of the recent floods in September 2024, which severely affected farmers and fishermen in the low-lying areas of Khowai district.

However, the minister did not provide specific details on whether any new plans or discussions related to flood relief would be addressed in the meeting. “Our focus today is on reviewing the ongoing projects and ensuring their successful implementation,” he concluded.
