Agartala, 21st October 2025:  A minor girl has reportedly been forced to flee her home in fear after allegedly being molested by a local booth president affiliated with the ruling party in Agartala. The incident, which has drawn sharp criticism over police inaction, has raised serious questions about law enforcement and governance in the region.

According to the complaint filed on October 3 at the East Agartala Women’s Police Station, the family of a rickshaw puller residing in the Swami Vivekananda Housing Complex was allegedly targeted by local Durga Puja organizers for donations. When the family failed to pay, Shibu Saha, the booth president of Ward No. 1, allegedly attacked them and molested two minor daughters inside their home.

Despite the gravity of the allegations, police have reportedly not summoned or arrested the accused. The family claims that Saha later issued threats of rape and murder against the girls, pressuring them to withdraw the complaint. One of the minors has since left home out of fear, even as her school examinations are approaching.

Today, a delegation from the Pradesh Mahila Congress visited the police station demanding immediate arrest of the accused and full protection for the victims. The OC assured that the girl would be safely returned home by tomorrow.

The Mahila Congress warned that if authorities fail to act by tomorrow, they will be compelled to take further steps.
