Agartala, 13th November 2025: Members of the Motinagar Higher Secondary School management committee, including Chairman Shariful Islam, have expressed deep dissatisfaction with Headmistress Nabalakshmi Debbarma, alleging a sharp decline in academic standards and discipline since her appointment.
According to the committee, Debbarma has consistently disregarded the authority of the management, refusing to engage in discussions aimed at improving the school. Members claim they are not even allowed to sit during meetings and are subjected to rude behavior. The headmistress is also accused of neglecting students’ academic needs, frequently arriving late or skipping school altogether.
Chairman Islam further alleged that Debbarma is attempting to dismantle the existing committee structure and align with external influences, contributing to the deterioration of the school’s reputation. As a result, several committee members have reportedly resigned in protest.
In addition to administrative concerns, Islam raised alarm over growing security issues on campus. He claimed that for the past few months, unruly youths have been consuming alcohol within the school premises and causing disturbances in classrooms. Last night, two ceiling fans were stolen from the eighth-grade classroom after the door lock was broken. Water taps from the school’s drinking water tank were also reported missing.
Despite students frequently skipping classes and loitering, the headmistress has allegedly failed to take corrective action. Once known for its academic excellence, the school is now said to be in decline.
When approached for comment, Headmistress Debbarma dismissed the allegations as fabricated and baseless. She asserted that she has been working diligently for the school’s development and intends to continue doing so.
The management committee suspects that a local group is orchestrating a smear campaign against them, which they believe the headmistress is exploiting. Following the theft incident, a formal complaint was lodged at Amtali Police Station, demanding a thorough investigation and strict punishment for those involved.
