Agartala, 18th November 2024: A mysterious fire engulfed a rubber godown along with all the rubber sheets and a rubber smokehouse on Monday afternoon in the Warengbari area of Pathalia Ghat Village, Jampuijla block under Bishramganj police station. The owner of the rubber godown Gautam Ghosh suffered significant losses as the fire destroyed rubber sheets worth Rs 12 lakh.
Gautam Ghosh, who owns a large rubber godown and smokehouse in Warengbari collects rubber sheets from various places in Jampuijala and stores them in his godown. The rubber sheets are dried using a smokehouse. According to Montu Pal, a worker at the smokehouse, the fire started last night and spread to the entire house by Monday afternoon. “We saw the fire and immediately informed the Bishramganj fire brigade,” said Pal.
Unfortunately, by the time the fire brigade arrived, the rubber sheets were already reduced to ashes. At the time of the incident, Gautam Ghosh was away in Vishalgarh for work. The Bishramganj fire brigade is investigating the incident, but the exact cause of the fire remains unknown. “Our initial assumption is that the fire started from the rubber smoke chamber,” said a fire brigade official.
The incident has left the local community in shock, and authorities are working to determine the cause of the fire to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The loss of the rubber godown is a significant setback for Gautam Ghosh and his workers, who rely on the rubber trade for their livelihood.
