Agartala, 15th October 2025: A 25-year-old woman’s mysterious death in the Khilpara Amtala area of Udaipur has sparked widespread shock and grief across the locality. The body of Sabnur Begum was discovered hanging inside her home on Wednesday morning, prompting immediate police intervention.
Local residents alerted authorities after spotting the woman’s body. Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Debanjali Roy, along with a police team, arrived at the scene shortly thereafter to begin an investigation.
According to police sources, Sabnur Begum had been married for three and a half years to Hasan Chowdhury, a resident of the same locality. The couple shared a two-and-a-half-year-old child. Family members revealed that the marriage had been marred by frequent quarrels.
Preliminary findings suggest that a heated argument erupted between the couple on Tuesday night over Sabnur’s use of Facebook. The following morning, Hasan claimed that his wife had taken her own life by hanging herself with a rope inside their home.
However, Sabnur’s father, Sakin Mia, has alleged foul play. He accused his son-in-law of habitual substance abuse and physical violence against his daughter. “I gave everything I could at the time of marriage. She was pursuing a B.Ed. degree and we were looking for job opportunities for her. But Hasan often created trouble under the influence of drugs,” he told reporters. He firmly believes his daughter was murdered.
The body has been sent to Gomati District Hospital for post-mortem examination. SDPO Roy stated that the exact cause of death will be determined after the autopsy report is received.
Meanwhile, the incident has cast a pall of sorrow and unease over the community. Udaipur police have detained Hasan Chowdhury for questioning and have launched a probe to determine whether the death was a case of suicide or homicide.
