Agartala, 29th December 2023: In a significant crackdown, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted late-night raids in Tripura, leading to the apprehension of three key accomplices linked to human traffickers operating in the region. The detained individuals, identified as Suman Tripura (30) from Ailamara and Kangphru Mog (38) from Baishnabpur of Sabroom and Amalesh Das of Belonia, are suspected of aiding the illegal entry of Rohingyas into India through the Indo-Bangla border.
This development comes in the wake of intensified efforts by the NIA, which previously conducted raids on November 8, resulting in the arrest of 44 touts or middlemen involved in human trafficking. Notably, 21 of the arrested individuals hailed from Tripura, indicating the region’s significance in the illicit network. The NIA’s statement revealed that the crackdown is part of a larger operation spanning 55 locations across 10 states and Union Territories.
Four cases related to human trafficking have been registered in NIA branches located in Guwahati, Chennai, Bangalore, and Jaipur, prompting coordinated actions to dismantle trafficking networks. The illegal entry of Rohingyas into India has been a growing concern, with traffickers exploiting vulnerable routes along the border. The latest raids underscore the agency’s commitment to curbing such activities and dismantling the intricate web of human trafficking operations.
