Agartala, 21st December 2024:   Opposition Leader Jitendra Chaudhury has voiced strong criticism of the ongoing NEC meeting, alleging that funds intended for developmental works in the North Eastern region are being diverted to promo festivals and drug de-addiction centres. Chaudhury made these remarks while addressing media personnel here on Saturday.

“The NEC was created to carry out various developmental works in the entire North Eastern region. But now, promo festivals, fairs, and drug de-addiction centres are being set up in the state with the money from NEC,” Chaudhury stated.

He further quipped that the Union Home Minister’s visit to the state under the guise of the NEC meeting is an attempt to repair the shaky BJP organization. “The Union Home Minister has come to the state to repair the shaky organization. But these efforts will not be of any use. The people of the state have understood everything. They are getting ready to fight,” he asserted.

Chaudhury’s comments reflect the growing tensions and dissatisfaction among the opposition regarding the allocation of NEC funds and the perceived political motives behind the Union Home Minister’s visit. The opposition leader’s remarks have added to the ongoing debate about the effectiveness and transparency of the NEC’s initiatives in the region.
