Agartala, 2nd February 2026 : The Tripura Pradesh Congress on Monday strongly criticized the 2026-27 Union Budget, calling it “visionless” and failing to address the developmental needs of the country and the northeastern region.
At a press briefing at Pradesh Congress Bhavan, party president Ashish Kumar Saha described the budget as lacking direction and a clear roadmap for economic growth.“This budget provides no guidance for the nation’s progress. Without concrete plans, employment is likely to decline, and workers may face increasing uncertainty,” Saha warned.
Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty echoed these concerns, saying the budget risks widening economic inequalities and doing little to curb black money. He also criticized the government for failing to implement past budgetary promises, leaving millions of unemployed youth with little hope.
Chakraborty further emphasized the budget’s neglect of Tripura and the broader northeastern region.“None of the demands raised by our state have been addressed. For states like Tripura, this budget is particularly disappointing,” he said, highlighting the inadequate allocations and lack of targeted initiatives for regional growth.
Pointing to previous budgets, Chakraborty expressed concern over the continued neglect of critical issues such as job creation, youth empowerment, and regional infrastructure development.
“Instead of introducing new measures, this budget recycles old policies, leaving the country unprepared for upcoming economic and social challenges,” he concluded.
