Pradyot Prioritises Indigenous Welfare Over Politics, Slams Government for Delay in VC Elections

Agartala, 5th November 2025:  Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma today said that the welfare and future of the indigenous people must take precedence over political loyalties or personal ambitions.

Speaking to reporters after arriving in Tripura, Pradyot launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led state government for delaying the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord and postponing the long-overdue Village Committee (VC) elections.

Highlighting the need for unity among the indigenous communities of the North East, he said, “For years, the Tiprasa, Nagas, and Mizos have been raising the same issues separately. But we have never spoken together as one voice in Delhi. Now, the Tiprasa are not alone — the Nagas, Mizos, Arunachalis, Manipuris, and Dimasas stand with us. This is the beginning of a North East thansa (unity).”

Pradyot emphasised that for him, the well-being of his people comes before any political label. “My only brand is the people — there’s no brand bigger than their future. I am not in love with brands; I am in love with my community,” he said.

Underscoring that the future of the Tiprasa people matters more than any party’s interests, Pradyot added, “I am not thinking about the party — I am thinking about our people.”

Referring to the delay in holding the Village Committee elections, he said, “On Monday, the hearing for the Village Council case will take place. Tripura sought more time, but the Chief Justice refused. If the state government is ready to conduct the election, why must we move the Supreme Court? The last polls were held in 2016, and now 2026 is around the corner. Is this democracy? If they wanted, they could have done it long ago.”

He also confirmed that discussions regarding the Tiprasa Accord will soon be held with the Chief Minister.
