Agartala, 17th February 2026: Former TIPRA Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Deb Barma today unveiled the construction of a modern 500 seat community hall at Dhepa Twisa in West Manikya Dewan ADC village, Karbook subdivision. The Rs 4 crore project, funded by the Tripura Autonomous District Council (ADC), fulfills a long standing aspiration of the Uchoi community.
Speaking at the ceremony, Pradyot recalled his 2021 visit to Korbook, where he had promised the Uchoi people a community hall after being moved by their discipline, cultural richness, and commitment to education and social values. “Their dedication to hard work and their stand against addiction inspired me. Today, I am proud to see that promise turning into reality,” he said.
Despite financial challenges, the Uchoi community contributed by purchasing two kanis of land for the project. The upcoming hall will host cultural programs, social functions, and welfare activities, while also providing office space for the community’s welfare society.
The event was attended by CEM Purna Chanda Jamatia, Executive Members Kamal Koloi and Dolly Reang, MLAs Nandita Debbarma Reang and Sanjoy Manik Tripura, Korbook Sub Zonal Chairman Chirakumar Uchoi, and several other dignitaries.
In his welcome address, community leader Sarfa Uchai highlighted that the Ataibang Welfare Society is a non political initiative dedicated to the holistic development of the Uchoi people. He noted that since 1979, one of their key demands had been the establishment of a modern community hall and office space — a demand now being realized through Pradyot’s efforts.
The project is being hailed as a milestone in strengthening tribal infrastructure and cultural identity. While the community expressed gratitude, they also voiced hopes that the quality of construction will reflect the scale of the Rs 4 crore investment.
