Agartala, 3rd September 2024: The recruitment of physiotherapists in the state has been at a standstill for the past eight years, leaving hundreds of qualified professionals without employment. On Tuesday, a group of unemployed physiotherapists, armed with their degrees visited the health department to demand immediate recruitment.
During their visit, the group submitted a deputation, calling for the urgent appointment of 210 physiotherapists across the state. “We have been waiting for years, and the situation is becoming unbearable,” said one of the protestors. “Through an RTI, we have learned that there are currently 11 vacancies for physiotherapists, yet no action has been taken to fill these positions.”
The protestors highlighted the plight of approximately 800 unemployed physiotherapists in the state. “Last year, when we came for deputation, we were told by an official that the file had been sent to the upper quarters and that we should be patient,” another protestor recalled. “However, it has been over a year, and no recruitment notification has been issued.”
The group reiterated their demand for the immediate filling of 210 vacancies, emphasizing the urgent need for action. “We cannot wait any longer. The health department must address this issue promptly,” they insisted.
The health department has yet to respond to the latest deputation, leaving the future of these unemployed physiotherapists uncertain.
